Luiseth Materán, who finished in the Top 5 of Miss Venezuela 2020, has been appointed as the powerhouse country’s representative to the next edition of the Miss Universe competition.

The 24-year-old actress and model represented Miranda in last year’s competition where she also won the Miss Solidaridad award.

“We have made the decision to directly designate a candidate from last year for the new Miss Universe pageant adhering to the selection options offered by the same international organization and taking into account the final evaluation that the participants had. For us, it is very important that the representative of our country can feel safe and confident, and this will allow us to plan in advance and honor the minimum preparation times that are necessary,” former Miss Universe Gabriela Isler, Miss Venezuela director of communications and training, said in a statement.

For her part, Materán, said: “Today more than ever I assume with honor the commitment to call myself Venezuela before the universe and I promise to work tirelessly to represent my country as it deserves . I love you and thank you so much affection and support.”

Materán will vie for the country’s 8th Miss Universe crown. Venezuela bagged the Miss Universe title in 1979, 1981, 1986, 1996, 2008, 2009 and 2013. It currently ranks 2nd in Missosology Big 5 Ranking. Missosology.Org; Photos from Miss Venezuela
